It’s easy to look at ourselves and only see the good or to “see what we want to see”. I was reading this morning and ended up here where I have apparently studied this out before. Here’s the break down: King David is asking the Lord to examine his heart, sometimes I’m extremely glad He looks at the heart when my actions or intentions aren’t acceptable, other times my heart is pretty tainted and I dare not invite Him to search but my heart does belong to Him. To SEARCH_ is to examine intimately, KNOW_ is to know by observing (think of the person who knows you intimately, who observes your actions and words, how do they see you?) TRY_ to test and examine (how are you in a test?) ANXIETIES_ thoughts, inner anxieties (sometimes our thoughts can be bigger than the situation causing our mind and body to react in an unnecessary way.) V 24; WICKED_ harmful habit, like idolatry (what are you putting before God?)
So in Connie’s terms, King David is saying to the Lord, “I want You to look down into my soul and see what I really am, is there any good? Show me Your ways so that I may spend eternity with You. Lead me away from the sin that would separate me from You, and lead me in Your ways so that I may have everlasting life.
Just a little study on this Sunday morning, have a blessed day.
