Jesus tells us to,” Be not troubled,” in His Word. When the disciples ask about His next coming and the end of the world, Jesus tells them that there will be wars and rumors of wars but not to be troubled. Matthew 24:6-8 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
With the news media blowing up the events of the past few days it’s hard not to worry. The United States could be on the brink of war and we don’t know whether to believe what we hear or to ignore it. How perilous are these times? Will this be World War III or just an overreacting people?
Whatever the situation Jesus tells us not to be troubled. He has everything planned out. Nothing will take Him by surprise and so we should just trust in His great plan. I know it’s easier said than done. But He has given us peace. John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
You see as a Christian we have the assurance that no matter what happens in life He will always be with us. Worry doesn’t help us. Fear causes more anxiety than is necessary for any situation. When we are troubled we need to talk to God. When fear is present, we need to talk to God. When we hear of wars and rumors of war, talk to God. Peace is ours when we talk with The one in charge.
Be still and know that He is God. Nothing surprises Him. He knows all things before they happen. Make it all things right with Him and you can have peace in uncertain times.
As the news fills our social media and TVs, I choose to pray. I’ll pray for our President and all government leaders. I’ll pray for our troops and their families. I’ll pray for wisdom in a time of turmoil. Guidance in a time of uncertainty. And peace in a time of unrest. The peace that passes all of my understanding.
